The Churchill Downs communications department said April 29 that sources confirmed 22 horses have been entered for the May 2 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). The post position draw for the 1 1/4-mile classic will be held at the Louisville oval at 5:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast by NBC Sports Network.

With the Derby starting gate limited to 20 based on points earned in designated prep races, Charles Fipke’s Tale of Verve was a surprise late entry, and he and Mossarossa’s Frammento will be the also-eligibles that can draw in should any scratches take place. Tale of Verve is a recent maiden winner by Tale of Ekati trained by Dallas Stewart, while the Midshipman colt Frammento is conditioned by Hall of Famer Nick Zito. Stewart has saddled longshots Golden Soul, also owned by Fipke, and Commanding Curve to respective upset second-place finishes in the last two runnings of the Derby.
