Kerry is a third generation horseman from Walton, Kentucky and is the owner and managing partner of Four Star Sales, LLC, a Lexington Kentucky based thoroughbred consignment company. He is a former member of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and has been involved with thoroughbred racing and breeding throughout his life. His late father, Tex, was a highly regarded blacksmith and his mother, Myra trained horses in the Northern Kentucky area. Both of his brothers are also significantly involved in the thoroughbred business. Steve is a retired Hall of Fame jockey who consults and operates a breeding farm in Northern Kentucky. Doug is owner of Doug Cauthen Thoroughbred Management in Lexington, Kentucky and consults for several Lexington area thoroughbred farms.
Kerry grew up working with horses on his family’s farm in Walton and also worked at several thoroughbred farms and on the racetrack in Kentucky, New York and California. Kerry received his undergraduate and law degree from the University of Kentucky and practiced Equine Law with the firm Wyatt, Tarrant, and Combs. In late 1996, Kerry partnered with John T.L. Jones Jr. to operate Walmac Bloodstock Services and assist Walmac Farm in stallion syndications and legal matters. In 2002, Kerry and Johnny joined with David Greathouse and Dan Kenny to form Four Star Sales, which remains his primary business. Four Star is a leading thoroughbred consignment operation which sells horses in Lexington, Kentucky and Saratoga, New York. He also owns, breeds, and races thoroughbreds. He is a member of several boards and organizations involved in all aspects of the thoroughbred industry.
